The Monastery of Panagia Chrisoskalitissa is one of the most famous pilgrimages and attractions in the prefecture of Chania. It is an impressive white structure, built on a large rock of 35 meters overlooking the Libyan Sea.

According to the legend, one of the 90 steps was gold, but it is said that this step is visible only to the sinless and those that really believe in God. That is why the monastery was named "Panagia Chrisoskalitissa" (in English "Virgin of the Golden Step").
